The Penrite-backed car will run a red, white, and blue look at this weekend’s Sandown 500 as a tribute to the ‘Team Brock’ Torana that won the race in 1976 with brothers Phil and Peter Brock at the wheel.

Team Brock’s single-year existence was part of the well-publicised break between the younger Brock brother and the Holden Dealer Team between ’74 and ’78, and the ’76 Sandown triumph was the second in a streak of seven consecutive 500 wins for Peter Brock.

“Pete and Sandown just had something with each other and if he finished he won; that year we won by two laps and it really shocked a lot of people. It was pretty special,” said Phil Brock.

“Personally, I had not driven with my brother before and when he went out by himself that year he asked if I would drive with him in the endurance races which I was very happy to do.

“Pete really wanted to do his own thing so he started up Team Brock, and being Aussies the natural thing was the Australian flag, hence the car being red, white and blue.

“I look at Erebus Motorsport being a small team who have had to work very hard to get somewhere and I think they are doing a great job. It’s a bit like that small team we had in 1976; you had the factory teams out there but we were a one-off team.”

According to Reynolds, the Brock tribute livery is the best paint work he’s seen on the #9 Commodore.

“It’s great to be heading to Sandown in ‘70s fashion with the Team Brock car, branded Team Erebus,” Reynolds said.

“Peter certainly raised the bar, and hopefully we can replicate his success this weekend, although by two laps could be a bit of a stretch.

"It's the best livery we've had, it's really clean and simple and showcases the Australian made and owned theme for Penrite."

The reveal follows yesterday’s unveiling of Dale Wood and Chris Pither’s NASCAR-themed retro livery.

Both Wood and Pither, and Reynolds and co-driver Luke Youlden, will be on-track at Winton today for the team’s pre-enduros test.
