FPR READY FOR MASSIVE CHINA AIRLIFT
June 3, 2005 - Ford Performance Racing (FPR) has completed the preparation and packaging of both FPR Falcons ahead of today's massive airlift - the largest airlift in Australian sporting history, to the Chinese city of Shanghai where the 5th Round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series will be held next weekend (June 10-12).
With three days available to conduct extensive repair work on Jason Bright's CAT FPR Falcon following his incidents at Eastern Creek last weekend, the team worked through two late night efforts to ensure that his car, and team mate Greg Ritter's Ford Credit FPV Falcon, were meticulously prepared for this history making Chinese round.
According to FPR Motorsport Director Tim Edwards, "As this is the first ever fly-away race for the team, we were faced with a number of challenges, notably, how to fit a B-Double transporter full of equipment into two air freight containers. The team rose to the occasion brilliantly and now that the work is done and the and the cars are on their way, everyone is excited about being a part of this major event."
The airlift required custom made racking systems for the cars, with each car piled one on top of the other in sets of two, while large cargo containers were used for FPR's racing equipment. The logistics of fitting the equipment required saw FPR's technicians design and build special racking and storage systems for use at this, and at future international V8 Supercar events.
Two 747-400 Series Freighter flights will carry all 32 of the V8 Supercar team's cars and equipment to Pudong Airport in Shanghai. Departing from Melbourne's Avalon airport, the first flight will leave on Friday night and second on Sunday morning.
FPR will then compete at the Shanghai International Circuit one week later from June 10-12.
Most FPR Team members will leave Australia on Tuesday June 7 with the exception of CAT FPR Falcon driver Jason Bright, who leaves for Singapore on Sunday to meet with the Caterpillar Asia-Pacific management team and to address company directors and staff, before flying on to Shanghai to join the team. FPR is in the unique position that most of its major sponsors, CAT, Ford, Ford Credit, Castrol, Delphi and Dunlop have extensive business operations in China.
According to FPR Commercial Director Rod Barrett, "On the commercial side, we have planned a number of special media and sponsor events taking place at the circuit and in Shanghai and we look forward to giving our sponsor's guests a close look at the world's most competitive Touring Car Championship at this exciting event. Jason will also be visiting Singapore on his way to Shanghai, taking full advantage of promoting FPR's participation in this inaugural Asian V8 Supercar event."
The entire team is looking forward to their first visit to China and is determined to put on a great show for Chinese motor racing fans, and for the millions who will be watching this historic sporting event live on television in Australia and all over the world.
