For the second year running, Supercars has singled the Sandown 500 out as its official Retro Round. Let’s take a look at the throwback colour schemes that will help open the Season of Endurance this weekend.

The factory Holden squad has taken its inspiration from the Holden Dealer Team cars of the late '60s and early '70s with the font and positioning of logos.

DJR Team Penske has opted for a subtle approach to the Retro Round, re-working the Shell logos to celebrate the long association between team part-owner Dick Johnson and the oil brand.

The Jones brothers have gone with a three-pronged tribute to childhood hero Norm Beechey. First up, Tim Blanchard's car sporting the livery that took Beechey to the 1965 Australian Touring Car Championship title at Sandown.

PRA has only opted to dress one car up in retro kit, calling back on two decades of Supercheap liveries to come up with a 1999-inspired colour scheme for Chaz Mostert's Falcon.

GRM is the Retro Round star. This year it's a 1998 throwback for Garth Tander's car, and a tribute to the Commodore that won the opening round of the WTCC in 1987 at Monza for James Moffat (whose dad was one of the winning drivers). The team has even gone with retro whitewalled tyres on its transporter and Tander's co-driver James Golding is sporting a world-beating mullet.

The former Holden Racing Team has gone with a tribute to Rick Kelly and Garth Tander's back-to-back title wins under the HSV Dealer Team banner back in '06/'07 – ironically a year after Tander was flung from Clayton days after winning the Sandown 500.

This seems to be the fan favourite so far. An excellent call back to when Peter Brock joined the Holden Racing Team back in 1994.
