McLean to join Ritter in #33 GRM Commodore for Bathurst
V8 Supercar veteran Cameron McLean will join Greg Ritter in the #33 Repco Valvoline Cummins Commodore for October's Bathurst 1000.
The Queenslander replaces Phil Scifleet in the team's line-up for the annual Mount Panorama classic following last weekend's Sandown 500 in Melbourne.
McLean, 39, competed at Sandown in a one-off drive for Ford Performance Racing due to international commitments stopping David Brabham from joining the team.
Therefore, without a drive for Bathurst as Brabham returns, McLean will ironically team up with Ritter, with whom he drove in the endurance events last year.
Team boss Garry Rogers said that he felt the team needed to make a change for Bathurst after a weekend at Sandown where the #33 car didn't finish with the result it should have.
"There were some mistakes made during the race that simply shouldn't have been and we cannot afford to have them happen at Bathurst," said Rogers.
"Cameron has driven for GRM before so he's familiar with the sort of approach we look for in our drivers and, given he raced at Sandown, he's not being thrown into the deep end without driving a V8 Supercar in recent times.
"There's no doubt that both cars were running strongly at Sandown and only one of them had a decent result, being the #34 car.
"We want to have both cars run well at Bathurst and think this change to the line-ups can help us achieve that."
McLean, who has finished fourth on three separate occasions at Bathurst, made his V8 Supercar debut with GRM in 1998 and will test the #33 Commodore at Winton on September 19 prior to Bathurst on October 5-8.
