Race Report, Round 6 - Oran Park, NSW (Sun.) 30 July 2000

MAZDA RX-7 driver Ric Shaw boosted his lead in the Century Batteries Australian GT Production Car Championship with two flag-to-flag wins in round six today at Oran Park, near Sydney.

Shaw claimed a winning margin in race one of 5.1 sec. over his nearest series rival Mark King, whose Mitsubishi Lancer RS Evo V made it only 300 metres into race two before retiring with driveshaft failure.

Despite the setback to King, who had cut his points deficit by winning five of the last six races before this weekend and pole position yesterday, Shaw said he still was not confident of winning the championship.

"This was just what we needed, because I think the last two rounds will favour Mark's car," Shaw said.

Falcon XR6 driver Daryl Coon scored his eighth win of the year in the Pennzoil Six-cylinder Touring class.

This weekend's races will be shown on Trackside on Network Ten throughout Australia next Sunday, 6 August, from 3 pm. Round seven of eight in the series will be on 19-20 August at Calder Park, Melbourne.
