INGALL LEFT WONDERING WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN IN HAMILTON

Supercheap Auto Racing's Russell Ingall has left round three of the 2008 V8 Supercar Championship in Hamilton, New Zealand wondering what could have been.

After being fourth fastest during practice on Friday Ingall's weekend took a turn for the worse when he lucked out in a rain affected qualifying session to start from the 12th row on the grid for race one.

Unfortunately Ingall was involved in an opening lap incident that damaged the front suspension on his #39 Supercheap Auto Commodore and forced him onto the sidelines.

His luck didn't get much better in the second 36-lap race when he suffered a brake issue which eventually forced him out of the race on lap 32.

In the final encounter this afternoon Ingall highlighted his potential speed by charging through the field to finish just outside the top ten.

Garth Tander won all three races to take the round win ahead of Steve Richards and James Courtney.

After three rounds in the 14-round series Rick Kelly leads on 672 points ahead of Tander (626) and Lee Holdsworth (580). Ingall is in 18th position on 303 points.

The next round will be held in Perth on May 9-11.

WHAT HE HAD TO SAY.....

Russell Ingall -- Driver of the #39 Supercheap Auto Commodore "After Friday's pace, the weekend has been disappointing -- if we didn't get caught out in qualifying it would have been a hell of a lot different," said Ingall.

"The cars that qualified in the top six pretty much finished there so that's where we should have been. Our speed was there, perhaps not enough to win but certainly a top five.

"We had a horror in race one, then a brake issue and slipping clutch in race two, but in the final we finished 11th -- at least we got one finish and some points, so we can't complain about that.

"We pitted early in the final race to get into clean air and gained some positions, but by the end the tyres weren't great so I got passed ... it would have been nice to be in the top 10.

"We have a list of improvements to do before the next round; Hamilton has been punishing so it has brought things to the fore. We've identified some areas we can fix and we'll get to it for Perth.

"I predicted it would turn into a crash fest and it turned out to be right in race one, but I didn't expect it to involve me on lap one!

"The first two corners were always going to be a problem, while you've also got the funnel effect of the wide straights going into narrow corners -- four cars into one spot doesn't fit too well. But that's the nature of street circuits and is not a criticism of Hamilton itself -- the team here have done an incredible job to organise this event.

"[On Saturday's first lap] There were cars going everywhere; I got squeezed by someone else, got up on the ripple strip and it got untidy ... and it just got worse from there. But that's what happens when you start back in the danger zone (back in the field)."
