NEWS FROM IRWIN RACING - IRWIN RACING FORD CROSSES AUSTRALIAN ICON
Commuters in Sydney this morning had to look twice when they were driving over the Harbour Bridge as the car in the very next lane was Alex Davison in the IRWIN Racing Ford Falcon V8 Supercar!
Part of the launch festivities for the inaugural Telstra Sydney 500 in December, Davison joined five other V8 Supercar drivers and cars that drove across the world famous bridge before parking in the city centre at Martin Place.
Driving under strictly controlled conditions, the IRWIN Falcon crossed the 'Coat Hanger' from North Sydney along the Cahill Expressway.
The Harbour Bridge, the Opera House and the Sydney Harbour all made for a fantastic backdrop for the #4 IRWIN Ford.
"For IRWIN Industrial Tools, Stone Brothers Racing and I - that certainly was an outstanding moment," said Davison.
"It is very rare that V8s actually drive on public roads, let alone drive across one of the most recognisable landmarks anywhere in the world!
"I certainly feel privileged to have been given the opportunity.
"It was good to actually drive it at a leisurely pace. It gave me the chance to really appreciate the opportunity as well as get plenty of thumbs-up from people in cars, trucks, busses, trains and even pedestrians on their morning walk or jog!
"There certainly is plenty of excitement in Sydney for the race, even though it is still some seven months away.
"Full credit has to go to V8 Supercars Australia and the New South Wales Government for putting together what will be another showpiece event in our racing series."
The Sydney 500 will be run on street course at the 2000 Olympic Games site in Homebush from 4-6 December. Davison next races at the Falken Tasmania Challenge the fourth weekend of this year's V8 Supercar Championship Series from 29-31 May.
