Great Debut For V8 Supercar Rookie

PCR/Actron Air Racing drivers Kevin Mundy and Marcus Zukanovic have battled the fourty degree heat to qualify ninth and fourteenth respectively for tomorrows opening round of the 2004 Konica Minolta V8 Supercar Series at Wakefield Park in Goulburn tomorrow.

Kevin Mundy had a good qualifying session despite missing most of the morning's first practice session after an alternator failed when the Sydneysider had only completed two laps.

Pleased to be sitting in the top ten for the first race tomorrow Mundy acknowledged the missed laps cost him a position further up the grid.

"I was quite happy with the way I qualified," said Mundy. "However, I have no doubt had I been able to do a few more laps in this morning's practice session I would have qualified better.

"The team worked frantically and did a great job to get the car back out in time for the second session.

"My main objective tomorrow is to keep the car on the bitumen, stay out of trouble and collect points.

"Tyre preservation in this heat is going to be vital," he added.

In his debut outing for the PCR/Actron Air Racing team, Marcus Zukanovic spent most of the day sitting inside the top ten on the time sheets before qualifying a respectable fourteenth in only his second time in the car.

"This is a dream come true," said Zukanovic. "I had a great time out there today and kept the car in the top ten for most of the sessions.

"Qualifying was my first time out on green slicks and they took a bit of getting used to.

"I found myself not braking as well in the qualifying session as I did in this morning's practice sessions so that is something I am going to have to work on," said Zukanovic

"I can't wait to get out there in the first race tomorrow but I must admit I am a bit nervous about the reverse grid in race two as I hear there can be a bit of carnage.

Given the extreme temperatures the PCR/Actron Air Racing team have been working on a race package to preserve tyres for tomorrow's three races. <pre> Top Fifteen Qualifying Results 1.
