FORD driver Daryl Coon continued his unbeaten record in the Century Batteries GT Production Series to tighten his grip on a possible Poolrite 6-Cylinder Touring class championship in round three today at Lakeside, Queensland.

First and second outright places, plus two class wins and a pole position, netted maximum points for Coon, from Melbourne, for the third consecutive race meeting.

His six-cylinder Falcon XR6 proved the equal or better of several V8 cars in the field, including the new Commodore SS of race one winner, Scott Loadsman, of Sydney.

Loadsman was on pole for the second 14-lap event, but clutch failure at the start forced him back to sixth as Coon streaked into the lead. The Commodore driver fought back through the field, setting the fastest lap time of the day on his run to second place, but ultimately he could make no impression on Coon.

After a frantic overnight engine rebuild, Falcon XR8 driver Brian Carr scored two third places to move into equal leadership of the Poolrite V8 Touring class with John McIlroy, who drove an identical car.

Ben Driscoll, in a Holden Vectra, and Luke Youlden, in a Holden Astra, share the lead in the Poolrite 4-Cylinder championship, with the class winner in today's races, David Russell (Proton), in third spot.

Round four of eight in the national GTP championship for production passenger cars will be run at the 2001 PROCAR Series meeting at Queensland Raceway, on 20-22 July.
