McConville and Luff's top ten Bathurst plan.

October 10, 2002 - Sydney's Lansvale Racing V8 Supercar Team returns to Australia's legendary Mount Panorama circuit in Bathurst (NSW) this weekend for Sunday's 40th running of the classic 1000 kilometre enduro, the 2002 Bob Jane T-Marts Bathurst 1000.

LRT VX Commodore driving duo Cameron McConville and Warren Luff seek nothing short of a top ten finish at Bathurst, mirroring and possibly improving upon the top ten result the Sydney based team gained at the mountain last season.

This is McConville's eleventh 1000 km endurance race at Mount Panorama, an impressive record given his age of 28. His experiences at the mountain have included a podium finish at second in 1999 along with a number of top ten finishes in V8 Supercars and Super Tourers. There is no doubt that he has the speed and experience to ensure another strong finish for the team in 2002.

Cameron McConville - "Driving into Bathurst always gets my heart pumping - I am very anxious to get onto the track and compete here - it is an amazing circuit. Over the last ten years I have had a strong finishing record here and I am confident of continuing this. Our qualifying speed has been improving so I plan to start the race in a better position than last year and better our 10th place finish."

Co-driver Warren Luff will make his LRT V8 Supercar race debut in Bathurst after McConville was forced out of the Queensland 500 after 35 laps, the damage so severe that Luff didn't get to turn a wheel at the first of the two V8 Supercar endurance races. In any case, Luff is excited about the weekend ahead, which is without a doubt the most significant event on the Australian motorsport calendar.

Warren Luff - "While it was disapppointing to miss out on some race miles in Queensland, we have tested since then and I am feeling very confident of our chances at Bathurst. I have raced many times on the circuit so it will be a matter of getting accustomed to the LRT Commodore here at Mount Panorama during the practice sessions. As always, our race pace will be strong - so if we can have a reliable run, there is no reason why we cannot deliver a top ten result at the biggest race of the year."

Team owners and Bathurst partnership record holders Trevor Ashby and Steve Reed will not compete in this year's event, preferring to concentrate the team's efforts and budget on ensuring the best possible result for one car. This has ended their remarkable consecutive run of 16 Bathurst 1000 races at Mount Panorama, Reed and Ashby now opting to use their vast Bathurst experience as joint crew chiefs for McConville and Luff.
