The Red Bull driver is also aiming for a milestone no driver in the category’s history has ever achieved.

Red Bull Racing Australia driver, Craig Lowndes, grabbed his 40th career pole position today in Tasmania in route to his third straight pole of the weekend. The 40-year old V8 Supercars driver is also aiming for his 100th career victory later today which is a milestone that no driver in the history of the category has ever achieved.

Tire management

As the cars left pit-lane for the 20-minute qualifying session for Race 6, they were also experimenting with tire strategies. At the start of the weekend, each team was only given three sets of tires which had to be stretched out over two sprint races and a 200km main event.

This led to various time differences across practice sessions as teams tested various strategies in an attempt to gain any sort of advantage.

Reynolds delivers

Sticking with an older set of tires during qualifying was David Reynolds who grabbed P2 ahead of the defending champion, Jamie Whincup.  

After yesterday’s controversial inceident involving Will Davison and James Courtney, the former rebounded back and will start today’s main event in fourth followed by Shane van Gisbergen.

Although the Erebus Motorsports team protested the incident from Race 4 after yesterday’s double sprint races, it was once again reviewed by officials and was deemed a racing incident.
