Brock clean-sweeps Nations Cup weekend.

Motor racing legend Peter Brock, driving a 7.0 litre Holden Monaro, wrapped up a clean sweep of the Cleanevent Nations Cup for GT sports cars with a fourth win at the Fosters Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne today.

Brock led the eight-lap race from start to finish, crossing the line almost 3.5 seconds ahead of Paul Stokell, who had powered his Lamborghini Diablo through from the back of the starting grid.

Stokell's charge resulted in a new lap record of 2 minutes 00.685 seconds, 0.685 sec. below the mark set by Brock yesterday and almost two seconds inside the best time set in 2002.

Tasmanian Greg Crick recorded another strong result in a Chrysler Viper he had bought only last Wednesday. Crick held second place until the last lap, when he was forced to surrender to the fast-finishing Stokell.

Denmark's Allan Simonsen, who hopes to stay in Australia to contest the Nations Cup championship, was fourth outright and first in the Group Two class in a Ferrari 360 Challenge, ahead of British Porsche RS driver Mark Mayall.

Mark King and Graham Alexander, in Mitsubishi Evolution VII models, and Justin Hemmes, in a Subari STi, took the podium positions in the GT Performance class.

Brock's victories maintained an unbroken record for the Monaro, which won the Bathurst 24-Hour last November in its debut race.

Despite his success, the nine-time Bathurst 1000 winner's appearance this weekend was billed as a one-off and he is due to hand the Monaro back to regular driver Nathan Pretty for the start of the championship in Adelaide in two weeks' time.

Other leading Nations Cup drivers, including three-time champion Jim Richards (Porsche) and John Bowe (Ferrari), will re-join the line-up for the first round.
