Mostert fastest in second V8 session

The Prodrive Racing Australia driver put in a soft tyre run 23 minutes from the end of the session, becoming the first driver under the 1m30s bracket with a 1m29.902s.

While that time was good enough to give Mostert P1, he wasn’t happy post-session.

“I’ve got a little bit of work to do,” he said.

“[I’m] not completely happy with our balance at the moment. We’ll work overnight to make it a bit more comfortable to drive.

“It’s good enough over one lap, we need to make it good enough over two.”

Walkinshaw Racing’s Tim Slade was second fastest, just over a tenth slower than Mostert, while Shane van Gisbergen overcame mid-session power steering issues to go third fastest right at the end.

Nick Percat was impressive, going fourth fastest for LD Motorsport, with points leader Mark Winterbottom in P5.

Scott McLaughlin was the best Volvo in sixth, Michael Caruso the best Nissan in eighth, and Will Davison the best Erebus Mercedes in 12th.

James Courtney, meanwhile, was forced to sit out the session. Immediately prior to the session a Navy helicopter made a low pass over pit-lane, causing the Holden Racing Team boom to collapse, injuring Courtney in the process.

Jack Perkins took his spot in the #22 Commodore, going 20th fastest.
