The fate of the Super Black squad, which run as a fourth Prodrive Racing Australia entry, has been unknown since the recent passing of Lentino after a lengthy battle with cancer.

The team has now confirmed that French, a long-time friend of Lentino and a part owner of the Prodrive outfit, will purchase the REC – subject to approval by the Supercars board.

The sale ensures the team will continue to represent New Zealand on the Supercars grid in the future.

“I’ve had a close link with Super Black Racing and admired what Tony had done and wanted to achieve with this team,” said French.

“This was Tony’s dream and I made a promise to help him along the way.

“This is a great opportunity for more New Zealand companies to reach out and be part of a great team and continue the vision.”

Greg Hahn will continue his role as team manager into the future, while current driver Chris Pither and endurance co-driver Richie Stanaway are both considered contenders for the SBR seat full-time in 2017.

“This decision [to sell the REC] comes with the full support of Emily Lentino and the Board of Trustees, and is an exciting development for the team,” Hahn added.

“In the discussions so far, Rusty will help to develop a team into a championship competitive operation.”
