Queensland: Adrenalin Motor Racing event summary

Novocastrian brothers Drew and Aaren Russell have had a weekend of mixed results with Drew finishing the second round of the 2010 Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series in 9th overall and Aaren finishing in 14th.

After a frustrating day on Friday, the Adrenalin Motor Racing team worked on their Zemana AntiLogger backed V8 Supercars late into the night to improve their grip and iron out a couple of other problems.

Not having tested between the opening round of the championship and this round the team were on the back foot slightly but they bounced back as the weekend went on.

Drew qualified in 12th place and made up one position in the first race, while younger brother Aaren qualified in 17th position and finished the first race in 18th.

The team put in another long night on Saturday night, making significant improvements to the cars for the second race of the weekend run early on Sunday morning.

Drew put in a storming effort to move up to finish in 6th place, with Aaren also putting in a solid drive to finish in 15th place.

Race three was difficult for both drivers for different reasons.

Starting from 9th position Drew got a fantastic start and worked his way up to 7th position and was fighting for 6th place when a safety car was brought out. When the race was restarted Drew found his car was almost undrivable.

"This weekend has been a bit of a struggle, particularly over the bumps," Drew said.

"We were able to close the gap to the front guys significantly between practice on Friday and qualifying and continued to improve the car throughout the weekend.

"I was able to push hard and work my way up to where we should have been on Friday morning during the third race.

"I was having a great run in the final race of the weekend and was pushing really hard, but after the safety car came out it was as if someone had flicked a switch - I don't know if it was the tyres going off or if something was broken in the car.

"We will have a good look at the data and check the car when we get back to Newcastle and see if we can resolve the issue before we get to Winton in 11 days time."

Rookie Aaren drove really well all weekend, gradually working his way up the order. Starting 19th in the final race he had worked his way up into 13th place before being spun and dropping to the back of the pack.

He did not give up though and fought his way up to finish the race in 13th.

"I am pleased with how this weekend has gone, even though we struggled to be quick early on I am pleased to have finished 14th overall," Aaren said.

"Every time I sit in the car I am getting more confident and comfortable with how to drive it and how it responds.

"It will be good to have such a short gap between rounds so I can build on the work we have done this weekend."

Round two of the Fujitsu V8 Supercars Series will be shown on Seven next Saturday with the third round of the championship being held the following weekend at Winton Motor Raceway
