Retro livery revealed for de Silvestro Supercar

Nissan Motorsport has completed the reveal of its retro Sandown 500 liveries, with a colour scheme based on the R380 Type II for Simona de Silvestro’s car.

The Swiss driver’s car will pay homage to the Nissan R380 Type II that set seven international speed records half a decade ago, with the fastest 50 kilometres, 50 miles, 100 kilometres, 100 miles, 200 kilometres, 200 miles and most distance traveled over one hour.

Those records came two years after the original Prince R380 had set five other speed records, and a year after it won the 1966 Japanese Grand Prix.

It will now be heroed at the Sandown 500 on de Silvestro’s Nissan Altima, which she’ll share with co-driver David Russell.

“The car looks amazing, and I love the idea of going retro for Sandown,” said De Silvestro.

“Nissan has a lot of famous race cars and to be honest I didn’t know much about the R380 before, but this has been a nice chance to learn about such a successful car. So while it certainly achieved a lot, I think it also makes for a really good looking Supercar.

“The whole team has gotten behind the retro idea, and I think it’s a great way have a bit of fun ahead of what is a very serious part of the season.”

The livery reveal follows retro colour schemes already unveiled for Rick and Todd Kelly’s cars, as well as Michael Caruso’s Altima.

This year’s endurance races mark de Silvestro’s first full campaign, although she already has two Bathurst 1000 starts under her belt.

She will take part in Nissan’s four-car pre-Sandown test at Winton tomorrow.
