The Prodrive Racing Australia driver went fastest with a 1m06.252s on the hard tyre, remarkably besting the qualifying lap record that Rick Kelly set yesterday on the softer compound Dunlop.

“Its my first pole since 2013, so awesome for the team,” said Reynolds.

“Everyone is really rapt. We weren’t that fast yesterday, so its good to turn it around and come out on top.”

Fabian Coulthard was second fastest, although unlike most of the field he didn’t set his quick time during the ‘happy hour’ in the last four minutes of the session. The Brad Jones Racing driver instead set his 1m06.377s 10 minutes into the 20-minute session, unable to improve at the death.

Shane van Gisbergen will start third, ahead of Saturday race winner Chaz Mostert and Coulthard’s BJR team-mate Dale Wood.

Mark Winterbottom was next, James Courtney the best of the Holden Racing Team cars in seventh, while Nick Percat recovered from a disastrous Saturday to qualify eighth.

Jason Bright capped off a decent morning’s work for BJR by going ninth fastest, while Andre Heimgartner made sure all of PRA’s cars made the Top 10.

Michael Caruso will start 11th, best of the Nissans, while it was another tough session for Volvo, Scott McLaughlin just 21st fastest.

There were some other surprises as well, such as Garth Tander managing just 23rd, while neither Triple Eight car made the Top 10, Jamie Whincup qualifying 12th and Craig Lowndes 15th.
