McConville 11th after Sandown qualifying.

November 29, 2002 - Lansvale Racing Team Holden VX Commodore driver Cameron McConville has earned a place in the final Top 15 Shootout of the 2002 V8 Supercar season after setting the fastest lap time of his qualifying session at Melbourne's Sandown Raceway today.

Competing in the Betta Electrical V8 Ultimate, (Round 13 of the Australian V8 Supercar Series), McConville set the 11th fastest time of the session, a 1 minute 11.5199 second lap.

He set the time on his last of 14 fierce laps around the 3.1 kilometre Sandown circuit located in south east Melbourne. This vaulted the Lansvale Racing Team from 24th (1:12.0117s) to11th, McConville improving his time by an impressive four tenths of a second on his final flying lap in the final seconds of the 25 minute session.

This effort places Sydney's only V8 Supercar Team under one sixth of a second behind Ford pole setter Marcus Ambrose and second fastest driver Mark Skaife in a HRT Commodore.

Cameron McConville - "We were a bit more aggressive with our qualifying set up than normal and it paid off here at Sandown. The times improved with each set of tyres and it took three to four laps to warm up each set. After our second tyre change I knew I had to find just over one tenth and I was confident of doing it.vI didn't think I could find 4/10ths of a second though! The guys put together a fantastic car today and I am very happy to be making our second shootout appearance of the season tomorrow."

The talented 28 year old Melbourne based driver is continuing the form that saw him qualify on the front row and contribute to the dominating Holden Monaro victory at the inaugural Bathurst 24 Hour endurance race a fortnight ago.

McConville will be back on the track tomorrow for the Top 15 Shootout at 11:20am, where he has the chance to start higher or lower on the grid depending on his high pressure, single fast lap time. The first 150 kilometre race is scheduled to start at 2:00pm, followed by a 300 kilometre enduro on Sunday.

Practice Session and Qualifying Times
Practice Session 1 - 1:13.16s
Practice Session 2 - 1:12.64s
Qualifying Session - 1:11.5197s
