Third race declared "non race" after accident at AGP.

The third race of the Netspace V8 Supercar Showdown at the Foster's Australian Grand Prix was declared a "non race" when it was red flagged after just two laps at Albert Park in Melbourne today.

Stone Brothers Racing's Russell Ingall battled difficult wet conditions to lead the opening two laps in his Caltex Havoline Ford and looked a likely winner of the reduced six-lap race when drama struck.

The race was stopped after Paul Dumbrell, making his way back on to the track, clipped the Commodore of Paul Morris -- Morris' car was consequently destroyed after hitting a concrete barrier with the impact ripping the front and rear left-hand wheels off of the car.

Starting from pole after winning yesterday's second race, Ingall jumped to the lead from the green flag and maintained his position until lap three when the race was stopped.

Ingall's SBR teammate Marcos Ambrose started from the back of the grid after an electrical problem in his Pirtek Falcon yesterday and made another fantastic start to be 16th after the opening lap.

Ambrose had moved up another three places by the time the race was stopped just one lap later.

The start of the race was delayed and then reduced from 10 to six laps after Dean Canton spun and damaged his car after the his rear wheels hit a wet ripple strip on the warm-up lap.

A few cars also started the race from pit lane including Craig Lowndes, Anthony Tratt, Craig Baird and Paul Radisich.

Ingall was pleased with the wet-weather performance of his car, despite the fact that he only completed a couple of laps.

"It is disappointing that the race had to be red flagged, but I guess there was no other option," said Ingall.

"The car again felt good in the wet and it would have been nice to pick up another trophy for Ross and Jimmy Stone and the boys who have worked so hard to get these cars ready.

"The good thing is that we had speed all weekend and that we are leaving here with a couple of straight race cars.

"Adelaide is going to be a whole different ball game with championship points up for grabs.

"This weekend was a very good start for SBR and Ford, but the real business starts in a couple of weeks time and hopefully we can carry our momentum through."

Unfortunately the race being red flagged meant the Ambrose again had little chance to get some needed race miles in his Pirtek Falcon.

Ambrose failed to finish races on Friday and Saturday due to an electrical problem.

"I guess we were not meant to do too many laps this weekend," said Ambrose.

"I could have had a good sleep-in this morning.

"The car was working good today and to go from 27th on the grid to 13th in a couple of laps was very pleasing.

"Russell's speed shows we are going to be competitive this season.

"I got another good start today, but I was backing off by the start--finish line because I could not see anything.

"Bring on Adelaide I say."

* The first round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series will be the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide from March 20-23 -- This event will involve two 250km races.
