Super Cheap Auto driver Steve Ellery has a proven history at Sandown, but admits he's unsure how he'll attack tomorrow's shootout at the Victorian track.
Ellery won at Sandown last year, taking victory in the second race and finishing second overall behind Radisich last year. After qualifying for tomorrow's shootout Ellery says he has work to do to make sure he stays toward the top of the order tomorrow.
"I have a bit of work to do before the shootout. I'm not 100% happy with how the car feels out there, so I'm going to have close look at the data to see if we can make up a bit of time.
"Shootouts usually treat me well so with a bit of work I reckon I can make up some spots. Ideally somewhere in the top six is the way to go because passing around here can be tough.
"For me, it's a bit different to last year. We were on the pace quite early last year and that carried through with our results. I'm expecting to be up the front from the start but there's no question that's a big job this weekend," Ellery said.
Ellery also has his perfect finishing record and a top ten spot in the championship to uphold. He's banking on the extra points from qualifying inside the top ten to help protect his position in the championship from main challenger Marcos Ambrose.
Tomorrow's shootout is at 9:35am and the first of three 150km races is at 2pm.
QUALIFYING POSITIONS: 1.T.Kelly, 2.C.Lowndes, 3.G.Murphy, 4.M.Skaife, 5.J.Bright, 6.P.Radisich, 7.L.Perkins, 8.R.Ingall, 9.S.Richards, 10.M.Ambrose, 11.D.Besnard, 12.S.Wills, 13.P.Morris, 14.S.Ellery, 15.G.Seton
