SBR Signs Luff For Endurance Drives

Back-to-back champions Stone Brothers Racing have wasted no time in getting its attack together for next year's V8 Supercar championship series.

SBR announced today that it has signed 2004 Rookie of the Year Warren Luff as a co-driver for either Marcos Ambrose or Russell Ingall for next year's Betta Electrical Sandown 500 in Melbourne and the Bathurst 1000 at Mt Panorama.

After a successful season with Dick Johnson Racing, Luff will drive for Decina Racing in next year's V8 Supercar Development Series under the watchful eye of team manager Paul Cruickshank before teaming up with SBR for the enduros.

The Development Series, formerly known as the Konica-Minolta championship, will consist of seven rounds, four of which will be on the same program as the V8 Supercars.

"Warren showed a lot of maturity in so many areas this season and when we knew he was on the market we were very keen to talk with him," said Stone.

"He showed consistent speed in the DJR car this year and really earned his Rookie of the Year award.

"We are looking forward to watching Warren develop with Paul Cruickshank at Decina Racing next season and then having him on board at SBR for Sandown and Bathurst.

"It is becoming more and more important to get your endurance drivers together early and hopefully we can be in a position to announce our fourth and final driver in the next few weeks."

Luff was obviously delighted to be offered a fantastic opportunity at this stage of his career.

"There is no doubt that SBR is the new benchmark in V8 Supercar racing and I am thrilled to be in a position to develop a relationship with Ross and Jimmy Stone and everyone at Stone Brothers Racing," said Luff.

"You do not finish 1-2 in this championship unless you are focused on the job and the SBR operation is as professional as they come.

"I am looking forward to my season with Decina Racing and Paul Cruickshank's operation and then stepping up for the endurance events with SBR.

"Whether I am driving with Marcos (Ambrose) or Russell (Ingall) I know I am going to be with one of the two best drivers in the country and that's not a bad situation to be in."

Both SBR and Decina Racing will make their 2005 debuts at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide, March 17-20.
