Supercars boss calls for Superlicence review

CAMS announced last year that it would introduce a new Superlicence system for the 2017 season, the primary two requirements being an age limit of 17, and the accumulation of 13 Superlicence points over the last five seasons.
The concept was shrouded in controversy from the word go, not least due to the fact that the struggling CAMS-owned and run Formula 4 series is as high as the Dunlop Series or Carrera Cup, while rival open-wheelers series are either ranked lower (like TRS and Formula 3), or omitted entirely (like the Australian Formula Ford Series).
Earlier today, Matt Chahda was denied a Superlicence by CAMS right as the was taking part in the Supercars season launch in Adelaide, and expected to be confirmed as an LD Motorsport driver for 2017.
That decision came just 24 hours after Alex Rullo was given a dispensation by CAMS, the fresh controversy leading to Supercars boss Warburton to call for a review of the system.
“Clearly implementing the Superlicence, having the points system and a minimum age is relevant,” Warburton told the official Supercars website.
“But a 16 week roll-out when Formula 1 has rolled it out over 14 months, I have sympathy for [LD Motorsport owner] Lucas [Dumbrell] on this occasion.
“We need to review the Superlicence because there is self-interest and the points are way too skewed towards Formula 4.”
Motorsport.com is waiting on an official comment from LD Motorsport.
