Surfers Paradise: FDSR race 2 report

VILLENEUVE TAKES OUT FDSR

Hardly an uneventful lap passed by in the first half of today's Gold Coast 600 race but, unfortunately for the Fair Dinkum Racing crew, the action put an end to Karl Reindler's race.

About one-third into the 300km enduro race international co-driver Fabrizio Giovanardi was dive-bombed by former F1 World Champion, Jacques Villeneuve. The ensuing contact broke the diff on Reindler's car, meaning the V8 rookie only got a couple of laps around Surfer's Paradise today.

The DNF is particularly disappointing after yesterday's result, which saw the squad score its first-ever top ten finish. The next V8 Supercar event is Tasmania on November 13/14.

Karl Reindler Fair Dinkum Sheds Racing "This event definitely encourages this sort of spectacle. It's good and bad as a driver; you've got to have luck on your side and yesterday we did but today we didn't.

"This is probably the seventh safety car we've had in this race if not more and we're only a third the way through. It's the nature of street circuits but this place in particular is horrendous for it."

"I'm disappointed; I try with all my force to stay out of the trouble and the trouble found me. Jacques Villeneuve made a really stupid overtaking; he just went in where there wasn't any space. He hit me on the wheel and broke my diff; that's it.

"I was just trying to avoid trouble because in front of me I saw really hot drivers driving and crashing cars everywhere. It's a special situation inside the circuit because it's so tight, which is meaning there is usually many crashes, as normal for touring cars: show, crashes, pushing"
