MCNALLY GETS EARLY SHOWER WITH CLUTCH FAILURE
Hi-Tec Oils Racing driver Mark McNally has turned his attention to Sunday's final race of the Sydney Telstra 500 after a clutch failure ended his day in the opening stages of the first race of the weekend today.
The West Aussie got had 'an early shower' at the Sydney Olympic Park street circuit today, with clutch failure on the first lap of the race.
McNally backed off in the hope that the clutch would cool down and recover, but after two laps he was forced to bring his stricken #16 Hi-Tec Oils Holden Commodore to the pits to retire.
Garth Tander won today's opening race ahead of Mark Winterbottom and Jason Bright. The final race will be held tomorrow at the Sydney Olympic Park street circuit.
WHAT MARK HAD TO SAY ...
Mark McNally - #16 Hi-Tec Oils Holden Commodore:
"It was very disappointing to get off the line quite well and get down towards Turn 1 and realise that we've had a problem with the clutch and on the exit of Turn 2 it started slipping," said Mark McNally.
"I tried to get out of it and cool it down but it was too far gone. It's a bit disappointing.
"Qualifying didn't really go to plan and we didn't build on the speed we had yesterday, but I'm pretty sure we can get on top of that for tomorrow and be competitive again.
"We had a laugh and a joke about Danny Green finishing in two minutes and I said that I didn't want end up the same way but I've suffered the same fate!
"It's not what I was looking for but we should have good strategy and a good run on Sunday."
