BARGWANNA NINTH IN ACTION PACKED SYDNEY OPENER

Jason Bargwanna has finished ninth in the action packed opening race of the Sydney Telstra 500 at the Sydney Olympic Park street circuit today.

Bargwanna managed to score his third top 10 finish for the season despite dropping a lap mid-race as the Kelly Racing crew replaced a bent steering arm on the #11 Rock Commodore.

Bargwanna then drove hard in an attempt to get back onto the lead lap and move back up the order. He finished the race as the first car one lap down in ninth place with front-running pace.

Brendan Hogan, Race Engineer for the #11 Rock Commodore, opted to put wet tyres on the #11 Rock Commodore on lap 58, one of only two cars to do so.

The decision would have been a potentially race winning move had it not been for Bargwanna's earlier steering problem, which saw the V8 veteran a lap down.

Tony Ricciardello retired mid-race today in the #16 Stratco Commodore, suffering from an engine misfire as a result of an electrical problem.

Jonathon Webb won today's race, his first V8 Supercars Championship victory, ahead of Jason Bright and Jack Daniel's Racing driver Rick Kelly.

The final race of the 2010 V8 Supercars Championship will be held tomorrow at the Sydney Olympic Park street circuit when another 250-kilometre race concludes the Sydney Telstra 500.

KELLY RACING QUOTEBOARD:

JASON BARGWANNA - #11 Rock Holden Commodore

"We made the right call at the right time late in the race," said Jason Bargwanna.

"We figured that there was going to be another Safety Car with the amount of water that was on the track. We made the call put wets on and I was only one car away from getting my lap back, which would have put me in the fight for a top five finish.

"Unfortunately we've had two steering arms bend this weekend so we have to have a good look at why that is and understand how we can make that not happen tomorrow.

"Clearly there was a lot of carnage and it was an interesting end to the race but it worked out OK for us but it's not every day you lose a lap and still finish inside the top 10."

TONY RICCIARDELLO - #16 Stratco Holden Commodore

"During the race we had some brake dramas, so we were just trying to do laps and progress up the order," said Ricciardello.

"We had an engine misfire, which gradually got worse over time so we had to call it a day.

"We'll go over everything tonight and look to get it sorted for tomorrow."
