RICCIARDELLO SCORES SEASON BEST IN SYDNEY FINALE
Stratco Racing driver Tony Ricciardello has scored his best finish of the 2010 V8 Supercars Championship season at the Sydney Telstra 500 today.
Ricciardello saved the best until last with a 17th place finish aboard the #16 Stratco Commodore in the 26th and final race of the year.
Jason Bargwanna made a sensational start to today's 74-lap race, jumping from his 11th starting spot to be in sixth place after the first corner.
Unfortunately Bargwanna suffered a bent steering arm on his #11 Rock Commodore during the first stint of the race, losing several laps as the Kelly Racing crew replaced the component in the pits.
Bargwanna finishes the season in 24th place in the V8 Supercars Drivers Championship points standings, with Ricciardello in 26th place.
Kelly Racing will be back in action for an official test day with all teams at Eastern Creek Raceway in Sydney, New South Wales on 29 January 2011.
The first event of the 2011 V8 Supercars Championship is the Yas V8 400 at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, UAE on 10-12 February 2011.
KELLY RACING QUOTEBOARD:
JASON BARGWANNA - #11 Rock Holden Commodore
On the race ...
"Clearly we have to have a good hard look at our front suspension because it cost me two good results this weekend and it's put Todd out of a good result today as well," said Jason Bargwanna.
"I'm extremely disappointed and frustrated because I had the best start I've ever had in a V8 Supercar in my entire life.
"The thing just hooked up and went. I passed four or five cars on the first lap and was sitting in the top six.
"We were a shot at possibly charging up to the podium today but 10 laps in we had a bent steering arm again, so it's unfortunate because the guys gave me an awesome Rock Commodore today but we could not capitalise."
On the season ...
"Unfortunately we've had some DNFs and mechanical failures this season," said Jason Bargwanna.
"I think we have all put in a great effort this year and we've certainly turned a corner in the last part of the year so that we can now say 'hey, I reckon we are a chance to be right up there in the championship in 2011'.
"I've really enjoyed my time at Kelly Racnig so far so bring on next year because it will be bigger and better."
TONY RICCIARDELLO - #16 Stratco Holden Commodore
On the race ...
"It's been a hard day and a hard year," said Tony Ricciardello.
"The boys worked tirelessly this morning. We had an engine failure and they worked flat out to get the Stratco Commodore ready for the race.
"We kept working on the car set-up and made a really good effort of it in the race. We had good outright pace and just had a slight brake issue that we couldn't quite fix completely over the weekend.
"Today is a positive move forward for me and the whole team."
On the season ...
"It's been a tough year, bloody tough," said Tony Ricciardello.
"We kept working at it and working at it and obviously we put in maximum effort and that paid off in that last race of the year.
"It would have been better to get those kind of results a bit earlier and a bit more often but we finished the season on a positive note.
"I can't thank Stratco and Kelly Racing enough for everything they have done this season."
