Team Betta Electrical stars at Clipsal 500.
In an action packed race today the lead changed many times, with lots of
dramas throughout. The Team Betta Electrical cars driven by Paul Radisich
in car 65 and car 66 driven by Dean Canto both got off to a good start.
The clutch problem that Canto had on Saturday had been rectified over night to give him a much better chance to come up through the field in today's race.
In lap 22 there was a huge battle for position with the same players as had battled yesterday. Paul Radisich, Paul Weel in Betta Electrical Team Brock car 16, Paul, Dumbrell and Jamie Winchap. These drivers certainly meant business and provided great entertainment for the crowd of 70,400 people in attendance. This puts the overall attendance at 213,600, the first time a crowd has exceeded the 200,000..
The race was not without incident and the safety car was need no less than five times. This in turn put pressure on the drivers at the restarts with the tyres having cooled under pace car conditions.
By lap 39 both the Team Betta Electrical cars had completed their two compulsory pit stops, one for fuel, and the second for tyres. In lap 40 the pace car came out for 3 laps.
At this stage Paul Radisich was in 12th position and Dean Canto was in 18th position. Jason Bright in Betta Electrical Team Brock car 50 had maintained and improved his position to 2nd.
An incident in lap 51 in which Max Wilson's windscreen was smashed by debris that appeared to have been dislodged from an overhead bridge by a piece of
debris that had originated from Simon Wills' car. Max did not suffer any serious injury from this incident but took no further part in the race.
Unfortunately Canto had problems with his car in lap 68 and was not able to finish the race, after receiving contact from Dumbrell just before turn 8 which caused considerable damage. Canto was very disappointed as he had driven a great race to that point.
Mark Skaife managed to avoid the carnage and finished as race winner.
Paul Weel in Betta Electrical Team Brock car 16 finished in 4th position, Paul Radisich, in Team Betta Electrical car 65 drove well to finish in 5th position and
Jason Bright in Betta Electrical Team Brock car 50 finished 7th.
