Team Betta Electrical completes race 2 unscathed

The warm up to the beginning of today's 22 Lap race showed the dedication of the Triple 8 engineers to get Canto's Team Betta Electrical car 66 back on the track. They worked tirelessly through the night to rectify the problems caused in Race One when Canto had hit the wall after a touch by Wills in car 44.In warm up the competition was fast and furious as would be expected in this, the business end of the season. Skaife posted the fastest warm up time of 1.51:8089, signalling his intentions for a fast race.

Ingall's comments prior to the beginning of the race after the controversy with Murphy in race one probably are indicative of the seriousness that the drivers place on this event, when he said, "game on ". After only a couple of laps Garth Tander unfortunately was on the same "driver speak" but his comment was 'game over' when he was forced out of the race. Jason Bright in Team Brock, Betta Electrical, car 50 also came to grief early in this race after his steering broke. At lap 11 race leader Marcos Ambros in car 4 reported a knock in his engine that meant he had to struggle to complete the remainder of the race on 7 cylinders.

Paul Radisich in Team Betta Electrical car 65 continued to progress his cause by gradually coming up through the field. From a starting point of 16th car 65 pushed his way to position 9 by lap 16. Canto in Team Betta Electrical car 66 seemed to be experiencing problems with his repaired car and was placed at position 25 in lap 16. In lap 16 also Ellery came to grief at turn 8 bring out the safety car.

At lap 19 racing started again. This only lasted for one lap when 4 cars came together as they tried to squeeze through the corner together. The safety car was out for the next 2 laps, leaving only 1 racing lap to finish the race. Canto in Car 66 had worked his way up to 13th position. After a touch during the restart he was put back into him back to 24th place to finish. Canto commented after the race on his changing fortunes, "I had hoped for a great weekend here on the Coast, after the bad luck I experienced at Bathurst. The team worked until very late last night to get the car ready for today and I am disappointed that I wasn't able to finish higher up the ladder, for their sake."

Radisch in car 65 managed to avoid the carnage for the duration of the race to finish in 6th place. Radisich was fairly happy with the performance of his car here at his home track, with one of his best finishes for the season. "I'm looking forward to going to New Zealand and am sure with the work we are doing the car will go well there, even though it is a different type of circuit to this one," said Radisich.
