TeamVodafone suits up for Red Cross' REDiSupport Program
TeamVodafone unveiled their new-look Gold Coast 600 themed race suits and helmets at Kurrawa Surf Club today which will be auctioned off in support of the Red Cross' REDiSupport program. Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup donned their racing attire, which has been embellished with swimmers on the suits and skullcaps on the helmets.
The team's V8 Supercars have also undergone a makeover iconic to the sunny Gold Coast and now feature a rocket red skullcap.
The racing suits will be auctioned off following this weekend's Gold Coast 600, with all proceeds raised going to the Red Cross' REDiSupport program.
REDiSupport volunteers have been working tirelessly to assist Australians in emergencies and are currently on standby for the South East Queensland residents who have been affected by recent flooding.
The Vodafone Foundation is an avid supporter of the Red Cross, donating over $600,000 to the organisation over the past two years. Red Cross Media Advisor for Emergency Services and Disaster Preparedness Jacqui Pringle said today's initiative was a fantastic way to support and raise awareness for the Red Cross REDiSupport Program."
Funds raised through initiatives such as today's event will assist us in achieving our goal of having 720 skilled REDiSupport volunteers resourced and ready to assist communities across the country at a moment's notice," said Pringle, "Without the support of the public and business community, Red Cross would not be able to provide the services that it does."
"The aim of the REDiSupport program is to help Australians cope with, respond to and recover from emergencies. People affected by emergencies, typically, are disoriented and traumatised and many often experience high levels of anxiety and stress.
"Red Cross REDiSupport volunteers aim to reduce this anxiety and stress by providing timely personal support and outreach to people recovering from an emergency, registration services to reconnect family and friends separated by an emergency, and other specialised Red Cross services during times of need," she stated.
Lowndes was thrilled to reveal the new attire today and said he was looking forward to donating it to such an important cause.
"Today's event was great in raising awareness for the Red Cross' REDiSupport program, which is a really important initiative for all Australians," Lowndes said.
"The driver's suits and helmets look great and really embody the Gold Coast event. It's great that we can auction them off and donate the proceeds to such a good cause."
Whincup said helping charitable organisations is an important part of the sport.
"It's really important that charities such as the Red Cross are included in the sport and it's a fun thing to do whilst supporting a good." The Armor All GC 600 will be held on October 22-24.
