Triple Eight Race Engineering celebrates most successful year in historyF

Triple Eight Race Engineering has enjoyed widespread success in 2008, dominating the world's most competitive touring car championships. Last weekend's V8 Supercar Championship Series win caps off a series of accolades for the Australian operation in its most competitive season to date. Triple Eight Australia scooped the pool at last night's V8 Supercar Gala Awards function, claiming the Drivers and Teams Championships, Bathurst Champions Award, Pole Position Award and Best Presented Team Award. In addition, the team scored its fourth consecutive Barry Sheene Medal win, with champion driver Jamie Whincup retaining the honours from 2007. The Southern Hemisphere success was close to a carbon copy of Triple Eight UK's stellar BTCC season.

The Banbury based operation claimed the British Touring Car Drivers and Teams Championships, with Fabrizio Giovanardi taking back-to-back titles in dominant fashion. Triple Eight's Australian Team Principal Roland Dane said the immense success was the result of a strong work ethic and focus on team values within the operation. "We strive to be the best in everything we do, and 2008 has clearly been a brilliant year, both in the Australian V8 Supercar Championship Series and the British Touring Car Championship," said Dane. "Securing the V8 Supercar Drivers and Teams championships last weekend was a long-held goal and to do it in such a dominant fashion is a credit to all involved, both in the garage and behind-the-scenes. Both Ian Harrison -- as my opposite number in the UK -- and I dearly wanted to win here and in the UK in the same year and I know that I speak for Derek Warwick as well when I say how immensely proud we all are of the achievements of the two crews at both ends of the World. "We've now got to get our heads down here in Brisbane to try to catch up with the six sets of titles that Ian and the boys over there have won! Dane said the team would take a well-deserved break before refocusing its efforts on defending the 2009 title. "It's important that we take some time out to reflect on the season past before beginning preparation for next year where we will aim for success on an even greater level."
