Miedecke Muscles to V8 Ute Bathurst Pole

Country Energy's, George Miedecke took out the Armor All Pole Award today (Friday, 9th October) and broke the 2008 lap record by 1.77seconds in qualifying for Round 7 of the 2009 Yokohama V8 Ute Racing Series – protected by Armor All at Mount Panorama, Bathurst.

"It's my first pole and I'm just wrapped! I can't wait to start from the front tomorrow. The cars feeling great so we're on a good run for the weekend," said Miedecke.

Miedecke went to the top of the time sheets in the last 7 minutes of the 20 minute session taking the spot from Holden driver Grant Johnson who posted a time of 2:33.66.

Nine out of the top ten qualifiers broke the lap record and former touring car legend and proud dad Andrew Miedecke said it's a fast track. Conditions were perfect and the track was clean.

Mother Energy Drink driver, Layton Crambrook and Series rival Jack Elsegood, were only 8/100 hundredths of a second apart from each other and will start from the second row for Race 1 tomorrow. Craig Dontas, Gary Baxter, Andrew Fisher, Gary MacDonald, Kim Jane and Ben Kavich rounded out the top 10, the Workhorse Collision Centre driver having his best qualifying session for the year.

Other close times were posted by Kurt Wimmer and Charlie Kovacs who were only 0.0039seconds apart for 13th, Ben Dunn and Steve Hodges a mere 0.0081seconds difference for 19th and Greg Willis and Paul Williams who were 0.0102 seconds away from each other for 27th.

Williams wasn't only battling for his grid position but also with Selectv's Gary Carson for the Racer Industry Rookie of the year Honours.

The title has definitely heated up with Carson now leading the Brock Race Engineering driver, by 5 points.

CAMCO Racings Ryal Harris was lucky to put in a decent time before his bonnet pins snapped forcing his bonnet to fly open four minutes into the session just out of Hell Corner.

The V8 Utes will be back on track Saturday, 10th October at 9:25am for Race 1 and 2:55pm for Race 2. The Round will come to an end after Race 3 on Sunday, 11th October, which is scheduled to start at 7:20am.

Race 2 and 3 will be televised live on Network Seven.
