Darwins Layton Crambrook sinks teeth into V8 Ute Series lead

Darwin born Layton Crambrook and NT Shippings Scott Jennings stepped out of their V8 Utes for a day and took on the Crocodiles in the Cage of Death dive at Crocosaurus Cove.

Both drivers came face-to-face with reptiles that have a jaw bite of 3600 kg, the equivalent weight of two V8 Utes.

They were joined on a tour by Crambrooks' local friend and Rookie V8 Ute Driver, Michael Hannon.

Hannon will step behind the wheel of Ryal Harris's Global Trading Schools #58 Holden this weekend at Hidden Valley Raceway for Round 4 of the 2009 Yokohama V8 Ute Racing Series protected by Armor All.

"I am pretty excited to drive a Ute. I just love the thrill of driving and will take it any chance I get," said Hannon.

The Darwinian used to race HQ's against local mate Layton Crambrook, who is the reigning V8 Ute Champion.

Crambrook is currently ranked second in the Series and has a Hidden Valley Round win already up his sleeve from 2008.

Although Crambrook enjoyed his time in the Cage he is keen to get behind the wheel of the Ute.

"Uglier than Charlie Kovacs, older than Kim Jane and with more teeth than George Elliot, "was Crambrook's first comment after going face to face with the pre-historic monsters.

"It was a great experience, growing up here I have been swimming a few times with Croc's but wasn't always able to see them like I did today," he said with a grin.

The V8 Utes will hit the track tomorrow, (Friday, 19th) morning at 9.10am for practice one.

Race 2 will be televised live on Network Seven at 12:30pm (EST).
