V8 Utes Trans Tasman Test Match for Hamilton Street Race
It's a well known fact that Australian's and New Zealanders love to battle it out for top honors in Cricket, Rugby Union and League. Now, Trans Tasman rivalry has expanded with 16 V8 Utes from the 2010 Yokohama V8 Ute Racing Series - protected by Armor All, and 16 V8 Utes from the ENZED V8 Ute Series set to appear as a key support to the ITM Hamilton 400 V8 Supercar street Race in New Zealand, 16 - 18 April 2010.
The V8 Ute Trans Tasman Challenge will include two practice sessions, one qualifying session and three races expanded over the three day event.
Australian V8 Ute Category Manager Craig Denyer is looking forward to the race and would like to see it turn into an annual event on both the ENZED V8 Utes and Australian V8 Utes calendar.
"We've been working with New Zealand V8 Ute Racing on this concept for a while so it's good to see that it's finally come together. The promoters of the Hamilton 400 have given both the NZ and Australian V8 Utes a great opportunity to entertain in front of New Zealand's biggest motorsport audience at one of the marquee motorsport events of the season, and I am sure the fans will love the sight and sound of 32 Ford and Holden Ute's door to door around the Hamilton street circuit."
In 2006, Australian V8 Utes raced in the Manfield V8 Ute International, in a two driver format that had one Australian and one New Zealand driver paired together. 22 teams competed in the event with Australian Charlie "Handlebars" Kovacs taking the trophy with Kiwi team mate Simon Wills.
2009 V8 Ute championship winner Jack Elsegood loves the concept and is looking forward to renewing the rivalry with other NZ ute frontrunners such as Chris Pither, Simon Beirne and current NZ Champion Caine Lobb.
"It will be a different format to the last time, the racing will be sensational with the colours of our country on the line, and hopefully there will be a few Aussie fans at the event to cheer us on - it should be Sweet as Bro," Elsegood said.
All three races will be televised live on TV3 New Zealand and also in a post produced program following the event in both Australia and New Zealand.
