Sydney's home town treat for V8 Ute Locals

Almost half the field of the 2009 Yokohama V8 Ute Racing Series - protected by Armor All are gearing up to compete on their local streets in the final round of the Series at the inaugural Sydney Telstra 500 Event, 4 - 6 December.

Sydney drivers include; Jack Elsegood, Layton Crambrook, George Miedecke, Andrew Fisher, Colin and Ben Dunn, Denis Cribbin, Gary MacDonald, Scott Jennings, Ben Kavich, Steve Hodges, Nandi Kiss, Warren Millet, and George Elliot.

Elsegood is currently leading the Series ahead of 2008 Champion Crambrook and they are sure to battle it out to the end. The former NRL player, Elsegood has been close to winning in the past and would love to take the Series in front of a home crowd.

"I'm happy to still be in the lead after the last round and it would be great to pull off a win in front of a home crowd but I'm not willing to count my eggs too early. I almost had it in the bag a few years ago but lost the Series halfway through the last race when my tyre delaminated. You just have to understand that this is motorsport and anything can happen. It doesn't matter how prepared you are," said Elsegood.

University of Western Sydney Student, George Miedecke is also in contention for the title currently in fifth position just ahead of Jesus All About Life Racings, Andrew Fisher who will once again be doing double duty but this time in the V8 Supercar Development Series.

Colin Dunn and Denis Cribbin have recently purchased a V8 Ute franchise from Stephen Robinson and Dunn is looking forward to driving against son Ben.

"We've been taking it in turns driving this year but I thought it would be good to give Ben the whole drive next year to see how he goes in the Series. It's been a while since we've raced against each other but it will be great as the whole family will be there," said Dunn.

Cribbin will also get a drive at Homebush in car #85, which was recently rolled by Allan Letcher at Bathurst. Williams Race Tech, Team Manager Wayne Williams has been working overtime to get the car ready in time.

"I've almost had to rebuild the whole car and if all goes to plan it will be ready by the end of next week," said Williams.

Other Williams Race Tech driver, Yanis Derums will sit-out Bathurst and lease the car to friend, Gary MacDonald who drove for him at Bathurst and took out the Round.

Workhorse Collision Repairs, Ben Kavich has also been working hard on repairing the damage to his V8 Ute from Bathurst and will be racing against fellow New South Welshman teammate, Scott Jennings who has just had one of his best ever results at Bathurst with a Pole start in Race 2.

Good mates, Steve Hodges and Nandi Kiss love racing in front of a home crowd. Hodges is excited to have the family come watch.

"My wife Julie never gets the chance to see me race anymore and she's really looking forward to seeing me compete maybe not as much as watching Cold Chisel though," he said with a smirk.

Wake-up backpackers owner, Warren Millet has done well to make it to the final round after recovering from brain surgery earlier in the year, which saw him miss rounds 2 and 3.

Another driver who is hoping to make it back to the track is Author of "The Crop", George Elliot who had to sit-out of Bathurst after undergoing back surgery.

"I'm aiming to be back in the car for Homebush. It didn't feel too bad on the weekend. I was struggling a bit but have a meeting with the doctor on Monday so hopefully he will explain why and give me the all clear so that I can start training for Sydney," said Elliot.

The drivers will hit the track on Friday for two practice sessions and a qualifying session and Race 2.
