Tony D'Alberto and Dale Wood have finished a stellar ninth in the 2011 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.

The pair brought their Falcon home in the top 10 after a solid, no mistakes performance in their #3 Wilson Security Ford Falcon FG.

After starting 23rd on the grid, D'Alberto chipped his way inside the top 15 early in the race and was rarely seen lower than position.

Wood's efforts as co-driver were faultless, keeping the car either in or close to the top 10, allowing D'Alberto the opportunity to bring it home for the deserved result.

The result represents Wood's best-ever Bathurst 1000 finish.

The finishing position is also a great reward for the McGrath Foundation, which the team was representing at Mount Panorama with a special livery.

Garth Tander and Nick Percat won the 161 lap race in their Toll Holden Racing Team Commodore VE ahead of two other Holdens – Craig Lowndes/Mark Skaife's TeamVodafone car and the Greg Murphy/Allan Simonsen Pepsi Max Crew car.

D'Alberto was the second of the Ford Performance Racing drivers home, with Mark Winterbottom/Steve Richards finishing fourth.

The next round of the V8 Supercars Championship will be held at Surfers Paradise for the Armor All Gold Coast 600 where D'Alberto will team up with Formula One driver Vitantionio Liuzzi in the unique international event.

TONY D'ALBERTO (lead driver)

"It was good to have a strong day today," Tony D'Alberto said.

"We were all disappointed earlier in the weekend. We had some problems with our front bumpers, and we later discovered we had a cracked chassis rail. From Friday until this morning, everyone was a bit down in the dumps.

"But we chipped away and the car got stronger and stronger. It was hard to know how to set the car up at the end, but we managed to get it there to the end.

"We got passed by a few cars when we got caught behind Jamie Whincup's slow car, but everyone has their little story here. After the year we've had, we complain. We are all very pleased with this result.

"Dale has been very strong for us. He went for it, wasn't scared to pass guys when we needed him to and we couldn't be more pleased with him."

DALE WOOD (co-driver)

"On a personal note, I feel that was my best performance in a V8 Supercar. I was able to put it in the right position and confident that I could pull it out," Dale Wood said.

"Between the two of us, I had confidence that Tony would bring the car to me in the same way I gave it to him, and visa versa.

"We gelled really well as a combination and I really enjoyed working with the team. All the guys in the team deserve this result."

AL D'ALBERTO (team owner)

"It was a great team effort today," Al D'Alberto said.

"We just quietly chipped away and in the end, we got a result. To finish in the top 10 in any V8 Supercars race is an achievement, but to do it at Bathurst is just excellent for our small squad.

"We now can't wait to use this result as motivation for the coming events."
