Van Gisbergen exits Bathurst 1000 ten laps shy of victory
Heartbreak for Shane Van Gisbergen in the Bathurst 1000.
Everything was going perfect for pole-sitter Shane Van Gisbergen. He was leading the race when the tenth safety car deployment took place with just over ten laps to go.
He and many other leaders pitted. The pit stop went flawlessly, but the car wouldn't go. The crew scrambled to do anything they possibly could but there was nothing they could do. Their Bathurst dream was over.
Shane Van Gisbergen emerged from the car to a standing ovation from the fans, but he was dejected beyond words. The fight for the win is left to others to dispute now.
