DAVISON CONFIRMED AT FPR
Will Davison will drive for Ford Performance Racing in 2011 and beyond, it was formally announced today.
In a move widely speculated upon in the industry for several months, the former Holden factory driver has 'jumped the fence' to the Ford factory team, and was today revealed as the driver of the number 6 'Trading Post' FPR Falcon.
Davison joins long-time Orrcon Steel FPR Ford driver Mark Winterbottom and Bottle-O Racing's Paul Dumbrell, both race winners and consistent front runners in season 2010, to form V8 Supercar racing's first three-car 'super team'. "Finally I can talk about my future," Will Davison said today, with a big smile.
"I am tremendously excited about my move to Ford and FPR ... they are the 'coming team' without doubt, I have thought for some months that they are on the verge of great success, and I am delighted that I am going to be a part of that.
"Making such a significant change is a tough call, and I didn't make it lightly, but FPR is very strong technically, they are extremely well resourced both technically and financially, and they very 'positive' way they go racing, which really appealed to me.
"In the end, I didn't have any doubts that FPR is the right place to be and I've already been made very welcome."
FPR Managing Director Tim Edwards was equally enthusiastic about his new signing.
"Will comes to us with tremendous experience ... he achieved a great deal on the international scene before coming back to Australia and no-one can question what he achieved at his previous team in 2009.
"Most importantly, he brings an 'outside' perspective to the team which we will all benefit from; he's the guy we targeted for this role and we're delighted to welcome him on board.
"Along with Will Davison at the wheel, the number 6 Trading Post FPR Falcon will this year feature the colours of Telstra subsidiary, Trading Post.
"Trading Post has made a major, long-term investment in a partnership with FPR, after 'testing the waters' in 2010," Tim Edwards explained. "The whole organisation is very serious about and committed to this investment, and the leverage they have planned is very exciting, it's going to be a great partnership and I have no doubt that in Will, they have the right guy to represent their business."
Will Davison's first drive of his Trading Post FPR Ford Falcon will be at the official season-opening V8 Supercar test Day, at Eastern Creek (Sydney) on Saturday 29 January.
