IRWIN RACING - V8 SUPERCAR TEST REPORT

ENCOURAGING TEST FOR IRWIN RACING

IRWIN Racing's Alex Davison has completed 170 laps of Queensland Raceway at the team's second test day of the V8 Supercar season.

The IRWIN Racing Ford Falcon didn't miss a beat throughout the day (Thursday 14 May), with the team trialling a range of technical changes throughout 600km of running.

Davison was joined on the day by fellow Stone Brothers Racing driver Shane van Gisbergen and endurance specialist John McIntyre for a total of 190-laps behind the wheel of the #4 IRWIN Racing FG Falcon.

V8 Supercar teams are only permitted four test days per season. The first mandatory test prior to the opening round in Adelaide was disrupted with showers throughout the day. The weather was far kinder this time with warm to hot conditions experienced throughout the day.

Davison currently sits 16th in the championship after 6 of 26 races. The next race weekend in the V8 Supercar Championship Series will be at Symmons Plains Raceway in Tasmania from 29-31 May.

WHAT IRWIN RACING DRIVER ALEX DAVISON HAD TO SAY:

"It was a pretty productive day," said Davison.

"We worked mainly on improving the chassis as we had not been happy with how the IRWIN Falcon had been handling. We tried a whole range of things, which we would not have had time for during a practice session at a race meeting.

"I certainly got plenty of time in the car and both myself and the team certainly made progress throughout the day.

"As a group we feel that we have a better understanding on what makes the IRWIN Ford tick and we feel that over the coming races we can continue to improve."

WHAT IRWIN RACING ENGINEER WES McDOUGALL HAD TO SAY:

"We got through a lot of things during the test and 600km of running is above average for a test day" said McDougall.

"Amongst the things we tried were some front geometry changes and a range of new components. This has given us a lot of information heading into the next group of races.

"Alex and I continue to build our working relationship. Understanding not only how a driver likes the car, but also what makes it go fast does take time to develop. Following the test we both feel a lot closer to finding that balance."

WHAT TEAM PRINCIPAL ROSS STONE HAD TO SAY:

"This was in fact Alex's first full test day in a V8 Supercar of any kind," said Stone.

"When he was in the series back in 2005 he never tested. Other times he had to share the driving duties as he was an endurance driver. Then at the start of the year he had the day interrupted by rain; so he had a lot to get through.

"I was very pleased to give him and the entire IRWIN Racing team a proper full day. Even more pleasing was the fact that the team improved throughout the day.

"It has to be remembered that we had a great deal of information on the BA/BF model. This being our first uninterrupted full test day with the FG, we now feel that we have a better understanding on what makes it tick."
