The 30-minute session, restricted to endurance co-drivers and wildcard entrants, was hugely rain-affected, with full wet conditions from top to bottom.
Davies, running as a wildcard this weekend in the Nissan Altima he usually campaigns in the Super2 series, spent the majority of the session outside the Top 10. He even endured a high-speed off at Turn 1 midway through, lucky to avoid damage after being caught out by the tricky conditions.
But with a few minutes left he got down to business, jumping into the top 10 with a 1m46.806s before knocking Nissan teammate Jack Le Brocq off top spot with a 1m45.759s right on the flag.
Le Brocq, driving Todd Kelly’s Altima, finished up second having led the majority, while Richard Muscat made late gains to put James Moffat’s GRM Commodore into third.
Luke Youlden was fourth fastest in David Reynolds’s Erebus Commodore, while Tony D’Alberto set the fifth quickest time in the #12 Penske Ford. D’Alberto was 22nd fastest as well, having switched to the #17 Penske entry midway through the session due to Alex Premat not being in the country.
Ash Walsh was sixth quickest in the #14 Brad Jones Racing car, despite sparking a red flag inside the last 10 minutes when he went off at Turn 3.
Macauley Jones survived an off of his own before slotting into seventh in the #8 BJR car, while Dean Canto was both eighth and ninth fastest, having jumped between the Mark Winterbottom’s #5 Prodrive entry, and the #6 PRA Ford that Richie Stanaway will race at the long distance races.
Dean Fiore rounded out the Top 1o in the #23 Nissan, while Kiwi legend Greg Murphy, taking part in the session for a TV segment, was 13th in the #62 LD Motorsport car.
Steve Richards finished up down in 16th in the sole Triple Eight car running in the session, with neither of the Red Bull-backed Commodores taking part.
