When F1 rhymes with family and the general public ...

During the weekend of 25th, 26th and 27th September the Spa-Francorchamps circuit will be hosting the Roadbook Organisation's top event, none other than the Spa Six Hours. An event which has evolved to such an extent, that as from now it has been renamed the F1 Historic & Spa Six Hours. This revised name clearly reflects the longing to bring to the fore one of the international series most enjoyed by the general public, namely the Grand Prix Masters. A championship allowing one and all to appreciate on track the Formula 1 single-seaters dating back to between 1968 and 1978, powered by a 3 litre atmospheric engine, the legendary V8 Cosworth.

Only a few weeks following on from the Belgian Grand Prix, it will be the turn of the older generation F1 cars to top the bill. The aficionados will be able to revel in the presence of such names as McLaren, Lotus, Tyrrell, Brabham, Williams, March and many others, formally raced by James Hunt, Emerson Fittipaldi, Jackie Stewart, Graham Hill, Ronnie Peterson, Nelson Piquet, Keke Rosberg, to name but a few. And seeing that these F1 single- seaters have retained their original livery, the spectacle will be even more magical!

In addition to these Grand Prix Masters, Spa Six Hours, it is over and above all the 'historic' event of the year on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. The figures speak for themselves: 15 races - amongst which the renowned Spa Six Hours scheduled on the Saturday late afternoon and set aside for the pre-1965 GT and Touring cars - , 600 cars, 1000 drivers, and the very best of the Prototypes, GTs and Touring cars produced between 1920 and 1970.

But F1 Historic & Spa Six Hours also generates an exceptional atmosphere, with even more entertainment in 2009, aimed at an ever larger general public. Flea market, Car Market, Kids Area, Spa Family Paddocks; all valid reasons to bring the entire family to this great event. All this under the aegis of the FBVA (Federation Belge des Vehicules Anciens), who have made this rendezvous their rallying point of the year.

Never short of ideas to create an atmosphere which is simultaneously nostalgic, polished and above all welcoming, Vincent Collard and Alain Defalle are now putting the finishing touches to the installations in the Endurance paddock, transformed into a genuine village for the occasion, a Drivers' Bar which will truly be The place to Be... for one and all! Spectators, competitors, mechanics, owners and enthusiasts will be able to meet up and linger between and during the various races....

Just make sure you tick off the 25th, 26th and 27th September 2009 in your diaries...
