Huff crosses generations to take Supertouring victory

Silverstone Classic makes for an unforgettable weekend.

Rob Huff made the most of his guest appearance in the HSCC Super Touring Championship after taking a stunning victory in Sunday’s race.  

Proudly holding the title for the ‘World’s Biggest Motor Racing Festival’, the Silverstone Classic boasts a plethora of historic racecars in an unforgettable weekend.
 
Developed with Prodrive with a reputed budget of £12million, the last car to win a Super Touring British Touring Car Championship was the V6 Ford Mondeo in 2000, which was piloted by 2012 FIA World Touring Car Champion (WTCC) at the annual three-day Silverstone Classic.
 
Opening his weekend with a class victory in the Chopard International Trophy for Pre ’66 GT behind the wheel of an Austin Healey 3000 alongside David Grace, Huff would partner long-term friend and teammate, Richard Meins, in the HSCC Super Touring Championship.
 
Having raced a variety of Meins’s historic amazing collection, Huff has also occasionally driven alongside Meins in modern machinery, such as the Audi R8 Ultra at the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour.

Huff likes the historics

Huff, who is no stranger to the historic racing scene, made a brilliant start in the iconic blue and yellow Ford Mondeo, storming around the outside of the field and finding himself in second place by the close of the opening tour of the 3.66-mile Grand Prix circuit. 

The LADA Sport LUKOIL WTCC driver had to wait until the second lap before making a pass on the Honda Civic of championship and race leader, James Dodd, at the Maggots and Beckets complex. The two remained nose-to-tail for the 10-lap race and, although the Honda of Dodd was unable to pass the experienced LADA Sport LUKOUL driver, a narrow seven tenths of a second separated the pair as they crossed the finish line.
 
“I’m very happy with that,” said Huff. “Everyone was asleep on the start so I just jumped around the outside of everyone, went side-by-side with (John) Cleland and then saw a red car spinning in my mirrors. James Dodd is definitely quick, though, and the slipstreaming was great. We don’t get that in the WTCC anymore because the cars are too fast, but Dodd was closing on me on every straight.”

Huff's next Classic outing will be at the 2014 Goodwood Revival, where he'll be debuting Mein's Jaguar E-Type 7 Cut.
