KNOXVILLE, IOWA (FEBRUARY 14, 2001) - Entry forms are available for the ninth Goodyear Masters Classic 360- cubic-inch sprint car race to be held at Knoxville Raceway on Friday, June 1. The $3,000-to-win event is open to drivers who are at least age 50 by that date, and entry forms are available from the National Sprint Car Museum. The event is held in conjunction with the twelfth National Sprint Car Hall of Fame induction weekend, June 1-3.
Past Goodyear Masters Classic winners include Rick Ferkel (1993-94-95), Billy Engelhart (1996-97), Jerry Crabb (1998), Roger Rager (1999) and Terry Pletch (2000). The podium places for those eight years are as follows:
1993 Rick Ferkel Jerry Crabb Archie Ergenbright 1994 Rick Ferkel Billy Engelhart Leroy Van Conett 1995 Rick Ferkel Billy Engelhart Darl Harrison 1996 Billy Engelhart Rick Ferkel Mike Brooks 1997 Billy Engelhart Mike Brooks Jerry Crabb 1998 Jerry Crabb John Bankston Billy Engelhart 1999 Roger Rager Rick Ferkel Harold McGilton 2000 Terry Pletch John Bankston Dwain Leiber
According to museum director Tom Schmeh, "We are very pleased with the success of the Goodyear Masters Classic event, especially now that it is teamed with the appearance of the United States Auto Club (USAC) Coors Light Silver Bullet Series at Knoxville. I spoke with hall of famer Leroy Van Conett at the West Capitol banquet in Sacramento this past weekend and he is already looking for a top-notch 360 ride for this year's 22-lapper. Leroy is determined to win the Goodyear Masters Classic, receive some air time on the ESPN2 broadcast of the USAC weekend, and take the three grand top prize back to California!"
Those seeking entry forms for the Classic are urged to contact Schmeh at 641-842-6176, or by e-mail at tschmeh@sprintcarhof.com. Lap sponsorships and event t- shirts for the race are also available at this time.
