Mont Tremblant, Quebec, Canada, July 28th. Todd Morici, 2002 points leader and past champion, won both races in the Disc Brake group this weekend at Le Circuit, the historic 2.65 mile track near Mont Tremblant. The races, part of the Shell Ferrari-Maserati Historic Challenge, were held in conjunction with the Ferrari Festival at the track. Morici drove his ex-NART 512 BB/LM to dominating wins on a dry track on Saturday, and a damp track in Sunday's finale. Other disc class winners during the weekend included Allie Ash (250 SWB Comp/61), Tom Hollfelder (512 M/Filipinetti) and Neil Fairman's 512 BB/LM in the Exhibition group.
Ray Hartman's pair of seconds in the 512 BB/LM class moves him into contention for the 2002 championship. A highlight of the disc races was the appearance of a rarely seen 412P, an ex-Ecurie Francorchamps car driven in Canada by Nick Longhi.
Peter Giddings brought a pair of rare racers for the Drum Brake group. The past series champion used his ex-Whitney Straight Maserati 8CM (the well-known chassis 3011) to win the pre-war class on both days; his newly restored Alfa Romeo 8C/35 stayed on the trailer. Jim Fuchs took two wins driving his 166 MM/53 in the early post-war group. Tom Hollfelder (Maserati 450S) and Lawrence Stroll (250 TR) ran one-two in the mid-50s class on Saturday, but both chose not to run in Sunday's race, held during rain showers at the 2.65 mile track.
The Mont Tremblant event was the fourth event of the 2002 season. The final event for the Shell Historics will be part of the Monterey Historics, at Laguna Seca in August.
