Danville, VA, April 28. The second day of the North American Shell Ferrari Historic Challenge at Virginia International Raceway was a day for repeat winners. Each of the five class winners from Saturday's races took was a Sunday winner as well, but the cars of the Historic Challenge still provided thrills for the enthusiastic spectators at historic 3.27 miles VIR circuit.

Ed Davies started on the pole in the Drum Brake group in his 1953 Ferrari 375 MM Pinin Farina Spyder, but was passed on the first lap by Peter Giddings driving his exceptionally quick Alfa Romeo 8C2300 Monza. Giddings' lead over Davies increased to as much as ten seconds, but the Ferrari driver "put his foot down," catching and repassing Giddings at the halfway point in the race. Davies was never able to pull more than a few seconds clear of Giddings, but that was enough for the overall and class wins, ahead of Jim Fuchs in a 1953 Ferrari 166MM/53 Vignale Spyder. Chuck Wegner, in his newly acquired Alfa Romeo 8C2300 Monza, finished second to Giddings in the Pre-War class.

In the Disc Brake group Todd Morici repeated his Saturday win in an ex-NART 512 BB/LM, but not without competition. Ray Hartman attempted to pass Morici at the start but went wide in Turn One, losing several positions. Chuck Wegner, in his second Shell Historic race of the day, used his ex-European University 512 BB/LM (painted an elegant and correct dark blue) could never quite catch Morici, but easily held off Hartman and John Giordano (512 S); Giordano was another class winner. The front-engined GT class was won by Ed Davies over Allie Ash, both Ferrari 250 SWB/Comp 61 berlinettas. This was Davies' fourth class win of the weekend; Davies, Giddings, and Morici are all former Shell Historic Champions.

The next race for the North American Shell Ferrari Historic Challenge will be at Georgia's Road Atlanta on May 10-12.
