Sylvan Beash shoe a resounding success
by Doug Zupan
SYLVAN BEACH, NY - The first ever race car show in Sylvan Beach, held on Thursday July 13 in conjunction with the weekly classic car and hot rod cruise night, was a tremendous success for a first time effort.
Fifteen area racecars and thousands of people attended the show, promoted by Jon Button, Doug Zupan, and Brenda Belden. Those drivers included Jon Button with his three vintage Sprint Cars, Bret Belden with his DIRT Pro Stock, Chuck Mathews with his DIRT Pro Stock, Chris Bargabos with her Four Cylinder Super Stock, Willie Seamon with his 1957 Chevy Racer, Chet Williams with his SCCA Road Racer, Bobby Newman with his Pure Stock, Mark Schoonover with his DIRT 358 Modified, along with the Slingshot racers of Todd Thomas, J.J. Courcy, and Jackie Botindari. Rounding out the car show was the Gater Racing News with their 2000 Monte Carlo Pace Car and Corvette.
Also in attendance were over 600 classic cars and hot rods, making it a perfect night for gearheads.
"We were ecstatic with the turnout of cars and race fans," said show Co-Organizer Doug Zupan. "Everything went really well and everyone had a great time. The setting along the lake and canal was just perfect and it was a relaxing night for all. We had intended this to be a once a year event, but the organizers in charge of the hot rod cruise asked us to come back next month!"
With that, a date for the next racecar cruise' night at Sylvan Beach has been tentatively set for Thursday August 10. Make your plans now for that night, as it will be the last scheduled race car show of the summer in Sylvan Beach. Next summer, plans are already in the making for a racecar show once a month, starting in either May or June.
Show organizers would like to thank all the racecar show participants, along with John Kowalski (Head of the Regular Cruise Night and owner of Canal View Caf=E9), Jack Cavallo for transporting the teams from the parking area, Gater Racing News, Jim Parker, and everyone else that lended a helping hand.
