July 5 - First race held on Omaha Auto Speedway board track in Omaha, Nebraska, USA (1915).
- Phil Hill participates in his first Grand Prix, the French GP. Troy Ruttman's first and only GP race. It is also the last GP for Juan Fangio and Luigi Musso. Fangio retires after the race but Musso dies from injuries suffered in a crash during the race (1958).
July 7 - To clear the view for ground level spectators when cars were stopped for servicing during the race, organizors of the ACF Grand Prix in France dug 5-foot deep trenches, or "pits", along the front straight to house support crews and spare parts (1908).

July 8 - Jack Hewitt born (1951).
July 9 - NHRA dragracer Jim Yates born (1953).
- Jonathon Williams DNFs at Rouen in the debut of the Ferrari Dino 166 F2 racer (1967).
July 10 - Mike Costin born (1929).
July 11 - Frank Hawley born (1956).
- Davey Allison finishes third in the NASCAR Winston Cup race at Louden, New Hampshire, USA, his last race before dying in a helicoptor crash (1993).
