For the second year in a row, the trio of Frank Biela, Tom Kristensen, and Emmanuelle Pirro drive an Audi R8 to victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans (2001).

Graham McRae, driving a Chevrolet-powered Leda GM1, wins the SCCA L&M Continental 5000 Championship race at Wtakins Glen, New York, USA (1972).

June 19
The first commercial drag racing event is held, at Orange County Airport n California, USA (1950).

June 20
Rothmans sponsored Porsche 956s finish 1-2-3 in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Jackie Ickx and Derek Bell drive the winning car. First overall race victory for the 956 (1982).

June 21
Tazio Nuvolari drives an Alfa Romeo to victory in the Budapest City Race in Hungary (1936).

June 22
James Hunt wins the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort. First GP win for Hunt and only GP win for Hesketh Racing (1975).

June 23
Alex Zanardi, driving a Target Chip Ganassi Racing Reynard 96I-Honda, scores his first CART Indy Car victory in the Budweiser/GI Joe's 200 at Portland International Raceway in Portland, Oregon, USA (1996).
