October 3 - Ted Horn wins sprint car race on 1-mile dirt oval at Trenton, New Jersey, USA. He sets a 1-lap record of 40.13 seconds (1948).

- Penske teammates Paul Tracy and Emmerson Fittipaldi start 1-2 and finish that way in CART race at Laguna Seca, California, USA. Tracy leads from flag to flag (1993).

October 4 - NASCAR stockcar racer Curtis Turner dies in crash of his private plane (1970).

October 6 - Brabhams finish 1-2, with Carlos Reutemann beating Carlos Pace, in USGP at Watkins Glen (1974).

October 9 - Richard Petty wins the NASCAR Miller High Life 500 at Charlotte, USA, but NASCAR fines Petty $35,000 and strips him of 104 points for using an illegal engine and tires (1983).
