Cosworth will be demonstrating how its Formula One technology is being used in the inspirational BLOODHOUND SSC programme, which will be on show throughout the four-day event next to Cosworth’s F1 race support truck. As one of BLOODHOUND’s technical partners, Cosworth has a crucial role in the successful outcome of the world land speed record attempt.

Cosworth is providing the rocket control system which will manage the ignition, fuel supply and shutdown of BLOODHOUND SSC’s custom-designed hybrid rocket. This will be used in conjunction with an EJ200 jet engine to deliver 47,000lbs of thrust, equivalent to 135,000bhp. Cosworth electronics will be incorporated into BLOODHOUND SSC to gather data that will help control the car and understand its performance. Cosworth is also supplying the auxiliary power unit in the shape of a V8 Formula One engine which will provide not only essential hydraulic services to the car but will also drive the rocket oxidiser pump, supplying 800 litres of High Test Peroxide (HTP) to the rocket in just 20 seconds. The installation of Cosworth’s CA2010 engine, HTP tank and the Falcon hybrid rocket will be on display for the very first time over the Goodwood weekend ahead of the forthcoming test firing at Pendine Sands.

Formula One team Marussia Virgin Racing will be present for the first time at Goodwood with their MVR-02, which is powered by Cosworth’s CA2011 engine. The team will be running the MVR-02 up the famous Goodwood hill, enthralling the packed crowds with the dulcet tones of the very latest Cosworth V8.

It promises to be another great Goodwood and Cosworth is proud to be playing its part.

Cosworth will also be paying homage to some of its impressive racing heritage with the venerable DFV engine powering the STP-March 711 up the famous Goodwood hill almost exactly 40 years since Ronnie Peterson brought the car over the line in second place at the British GP at Silverstone.

Cosworth Group CEO Tim Routsis will be at Goodwood over the weekend, as will BLOODHOUND SSC Project Director Richard Noble.

General Manager of Cosworth’s Formula One Business Unit, Mark Gallagher, said: “Goodwood Festival of Speed is one of Europe’s most exciting and enjoyable celebrations of motorsport and it is only natural for Cosworth, as a leading provider of engineering solutions to the global motorsport industry, to be involved. This year the highlight will be our involvement with the BLOODHOUND SSC team, displaying the work that we are carrying out together and showing how Cosworth’s F1 technology is being used in this exciting land speed record attempt. I am also looking forward to seeing the mix of old and new on the famous Goodwood hill with our CA2011 powering the Marussia Virgin Racing MVR-02 and the legendary DFV in the back of the STP March 711. It promises to be another great Goodwood and Cosworth is proud to be playing its part.”
