After the rain in Silverstone, a podium for Stefan Mücke

Berlin/Silverstone (rol/ot) - The German sports car pilot Stefan Mücke started into the new season of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) with a podium placing in his class on Sunday evening (20th of April). The Aston Martin works driver from Berlin, who shared the cockpit of the Vantage GTE V8 with his British team colleague Darren Turner, finished on position three in the GTE Pro Class behind two Porsche 911 RSR in Silverstone.

“I can be very satisfied with the result, because after a tough weekend, the third position is more than we expected“, the 32 year old said. “The bad weather conditions were not the only problem for us. Our car just didn’t reach the needed speed“, Stefan Mücke explained, who started into the six hour race together with Darren Turner from position five. “We scored the maximum that has been possible. The regulation of five millimetres more vehicle height from the ground affected us a lot. That takes the Vantage out of his performance range. So we didn’t really have the chance to repeat our last year’s success at the WEC season opening in Silverstone“, Stefan Mücke said, who finished third at the overall GT drivers ranking of the Long Track World Championship together with Darren Turner in 2013.

The race in Silverstone was aborted about half an hour before the regular end due to the hard rain on Sunday evening. “That has definitely been the right decision. We had too much aquaplaning. It was almost not even possible to follow the Safety Car“, the Berlin said, who felt more like swimming on track than driving at the end. The second WEC run is scheduled for the 2nd and 3rd of May again as a six hour race in Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium).
